David Eckstein had 2 base hits and Barry Zito took a no-hitter into the 8th
inning at Shea Stadium as the Vero Beach SeaWolves beat the Falls Lake Fire
Ants by the count of 4 to 0.
Zito(2-1) was on top of his game. He surrendered only 3 hits and 1 walk in 8
and 1/3 innings improving his ERA from 4.50 to 2.82. The left-handed Zito
lost his chance for a no-hitter when Craig Monroe singled with one out in the
8th inning. Vero Beach finished with 7 hits while Falls Lake ended up with
3.
Zito was helped out by Joe Nathan who recorded his 4th save. Jon Garland(2-1)
was the loser. He gave up 7 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
