The Southside Blues came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the
anticipated celebration of the hometown fans.  The final score,, was 3 to
2.
 
Southside had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits.
After an out was recorded, Emil Brown got things going when he singled.
Bruntlett took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.  Todd Pratt
then lined a base-hit knocking in a run.  Pratt took second on the throw.
Vinny Castilla followed and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning.
Southside had 9 hits overall, while Vero Beach had 3.  
 
The win went to Johan Santana(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Santana
got help from Joe Nathan who earned his 1st save.  Miguel Batista(0-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 3
hits and no walks.
 
After the game, it took a long while before David Gandy emerged from his
office.  In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions.  He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand.  I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the Southside locker room.'
