Center fielder Vernon Wells touched them all and had 2 RBI as the Solvang
Winedrinkers defeated the Falls Lake Fire Ants by a score of 7 to 4 at Fenway
Park.
Solvang scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning as they scored
5 runs on 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Brian Roberts who
deflated the crowd as he depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand
slam home run (his 1st of the season). Solvang and Falls Lake each finished
the night with 7 hits.
The win went to Fernando Cabrera(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Shawn Chacon recorded the save, his 1st. Scott Eyre(2-1) was charged with
the loss in relief.
